Norway : WARTSILA bags PSV BWT Contract
Publish Date : 20-Oct-2012
Wartsila has received a contract to supply AQUARIUS® UV ballast water management systems to four Tidewater Marine Platform Supply Vessels (PSV).
Scheduled for delivery from the COSCO (Guangdong) Shipyard in 2014, the scope of supply for the vessels, features four 250m3/hr capacity Wartsila AQUARIUS®UV BWMS, that is to be assembled and shipped from Wartsila’s production unit located in the UK.
Through a two stage procedure, Ballast water treatment with the AQUARIUS® UV system has been achieved. Upon uptake the sea water is initially passed through a back washing filter (First stage). Then, the filtered sea water passes through a UV chamber (Second stage) at the stage where ultra-violet light is used for disinfecting the water before entering the ballast tank. Water from the ballast tanks passes through the UV chamber only for a second time, upon discharge.
The 3,800Dwt PSVs will be used for tranporation of pipes, equipment and cargo to and from pipe laying barges, oil drilling and production platforms.
Dr Joe Thomas, Director, Ballast Water Management Systems, Wartsila Environmental Solutions said, “This contract is our first commercial order for PSVs and the selection of a Wärtsilä ballast water management system by Tidewater Marine, L.L.C. underlines confidence in our ability to deliver in this emerging market.â€
January 2013 is the scheduled date for the delivery of the first of the AQUARIUS® UV systems to the shipyard and then within interval of two-months.
