United Arab Emirates : EMAAR PROPERTIES partners with DCCE to decrease carbon emissions

Publish Date : 31-Oct-2012

Emaar Properties has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai\'s Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE).

With this MoU, Emaar Properties will join forces with DCCE, to decrease carbon emissions from different communities across Dubai. The MoU was inked on the sidelines of World Energy Forum in Dubai, which took place last week. Saeed Mohamed Al Tayer, Vice-Chairman of Dubai\'s Supreme Council for Energy; Waled Salman, Chairman of DCCE; and Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director of Emaar Properties, were present during the ceremony.

The MoU signifies that Emaar has given its approval for DCCE to recognize and explore projects to decrease waste and save energy across its estate. DCCE will also recognize emission reduction opportunities and strategies for projects which can result into Certified Emission Reductions.

According to Emaar Properties and DCCE, the move can eventually enable end users to decrease energy bills. The measures comprise feasible retrofits, solar heating panels for hot water systems and controls on cooling systems to decrease energy usage.

“Dubai is focused on promoting sustainable development initiatives, which is underlined by the hosting of the World Energy Forum in the city, and its commitment to explore renewable energy sources. As the pioneer in developing master-planned communities, Emaar is at the forefront in identifying and potentially implementing advanced projects that can reduce carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions. Emaar has already undertaken several environment-friendly initiatives, and our partnership with DCCE will further enable us to be an industry thought-leader in managing sustainable lifestyle entities,” said Al Matrooshi.

“We strongly encourage private sector initiative in energy management not only as part of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, but also to allow a more participatory approach that includes all stakeholders,” said Al Tayer.
