Singapore : Keppel unit bags $1.5 billion order to build drilling rigs
Publish Date : 05-Dec-2012
A UNIT of Keppel Corporation has secured a contract to build two semi-submersible drilling rigs worth about US$1.2 billion (S$1.5 billion).
Keppel FELS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine, has signed a contract with Ukraine\'s state-owned Naftogaz to build the rigs capable of withstanding harsh weather conditions.
The rigs will be built to Keppel FELS\' proprietary DSSTM 38U design which is customised for the Black Sea environment.
The harsh weather conditions of the Black Sea include extreme freezing temperatures, storms with strong winds and heavy seas.
