United States : PACIFIC NORTHWEST NATIONAL LABORATORY receives $1.7M DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY grant for wind turbine project
Publish Date : 18-Dec-2012
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has received $1.7 million grant from the Department of Energy, supporting offshore wind projects, including one in Coos Bay, Ore.
As per the proposal, Principal Power of Seattle is to install five 6-megawatt turbines on floating platforms around 10 to 15 miles offshore from Coos Bay in the Pacific Ocean.
For leading and coordination of environmental assessments and for securing necessary approvals for the project, PNNL will receive $1.4 million through fall 2014.
Grants of smaller amounts were given to PNNL to support offshore wind projects at Monhegan Island, Maine, and in Lake Erie.
Characterization of acoustic and electromagnetic fields which would be generated by the installation and operation of a floating wind farm near Monhegan Island will be done by PNNL, who will even conduct study on the visual impacts of the wind farm.
