Russian Federation : SAMARA awards $28m WORLD CUP deal to a local firm

The central Russian city of Samara has awarded a $27.5 million contract to TerrNIIgrazhdanproekt, a local firm based in Samara, to design a 2018 World Cup arena.
The work includes a 45,000-seater stadium, to be reduced to 35,000 followed by the tournament, along with many other infrastructure items.
Regional governor Nikolai Merkushin said, “Design work is the most important stage of preparation for the 2018 World Cup.†He added, “We believe that the stadium should be an ornament, the pride of Samara, both as an architectural object and as a sports facility.â€
Merkushin stated that surrounding of the arena can have “a modern estate of social housingâ€, conference facilities and sports venues.
The design tender\'s cost is set at a maximum of 861.4 million rubles.
