US-based construction and engineering company, Bechtel was selected by Anadarko Mocambique Area 1 to work on Mozambique\'s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) project. Financial details of the deal were not revealed.

Responsible for a front end engineering and design (FEED) for a new LNG facility in the country, Bechtel will provide FEED services for the initial phase of the onshore plant which will be developed in the Cabo Delgado province.

Bechtel will be designing a multi-train liquefaction unit having a capacity of five million metric tons per annum (MMTPA) of LNG as well as would provide design for the overall LNG park plan enabling expansion of the facility to about 50MMTPA.

This recent contract award adds to the firm\'s experience in LNG and in Africa said, Bechtel Oil, Gas and Chemicals business unit president Jack Futcher.

Futcher said, “We are excited by the prospect of working with Anadarko and its partners to develop a world-class facility that will bring jobs and economic development to Mozambique.”

During 2018, initial commercial LNG sales from the plant are scheduled to take place.
