The State Highway Administration has announced to begin a two-year project for renovating the Interstate 68 bridge over Cumberland. Preliminary work on the project was expected to starts on Tuesday.
The project is worth nearly $14 million.
Around 43 years old bridge is about six-tenths of a mile long, carrying traffic high above downtown buildings, railroad tracks and the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal at the confluence of Wills Creek and the Potomac River.
Soon, lane closures could be expected on the bridge and surface streets.
Project covers sandblasting steel, strengthening concrete along with the sealing of the road surface. The project even includes water drains and fixing of new lights.
