Australia : FORTESCUE METALS awards five year A$1.8 billion mining services contract to MACMAHON HOLDINGS

Publish Date : 23-Jan-2013

Iron-ore miner Fortescue Metals has awarded a five year A$1.8-billion mining services contract to project house Macmahon Holdings for its Christmas Creek mine expansion.

The contract aims at delivering all aspects of mine operations, such as drill and blast, overburden removal, ore harvesting, maintenance of equipment along with related services towards the expansion of the Christmas Creek, which would raise the capacity of the Chichester operations to 95-million tons a year.

It serves as a major component of the company’s 155-million ton a year expansion plans targeted till December 2013.

Macmahon chief Ross Carroll stated that, for the ASX-listed Macmahon, the Fortescue contract was the largest ever mining contract. It increased the order book to nearly A$3.6-billion.

He said, “This is an exciting project that builds on the existing success of our surface mining operations, securing a stronger foundation for the company’s mining focused business over the next five years.”
