$12 MILLION joint contract bagged by AeroVironment for Wasp AE small UAS

A $12 million joint contract by the U.S. Army’s Counter-IED Program and the NAVAIR’s PMA- 263 is awarded to AeroVironment, for the Wasp AE small UAS on September 21, 2012, in addition with initial spares packages, training services and a year’s contractor logistics support.
Roy Minson, Sr. VP AeroVironment, confirmed the development, stating, that “the contracts help support the U.S. Marine Corps in expanding the Wasp AE UAS applicability beyond the AF, thereby enabling the Wasp III system’s proven successor help customer’s operate more safely and effectivelyâ€.
The company’s smallest Mantis suite of miniature gimbal payloads or the 275 gram Mantis i22 AE is integrated by Wasp AE, which has weight of 1.3 kilograms, providing both colour and infrared video imagery from a single sensor package.
Hand-launch capabilities, with deep-stall landing in confined areas such as land and water, are the features included in it, making it ideal for land and maritime missions, and has 20 percent greater flight duration than the Wasp III.
The warfighter’s fight capability, allowing ground commanders to select the appropriate aircraft based on mission type is increased by Wasp AE, provinding significant force protection and multiplication benefits to small tactical units and security personnel.
