On January 31, 2013 Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Ihor Prasolov met with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of America John F. Tefft.

In the course of meeting the interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral trade and economic cooperation among which are cooperation of the states in the WTO frames, work of Ukraine-America Council for Trade and Investments, holding the first sitting of Trade Experts Group (TEG).

Ihor Prasolov emphasized that the USA remains a considerable trade and economic partner of Ukraine and a leading international investor.

In the frames of meeting it was stressed that there are progressive changes in relations between Ukraine and the US and growth of two-way trade amounts.

The US Ambassador singled out an issue of reconsidering of customs tariffs and expressed hopes for keeping the WTO standards towards American companies in the mentioned process to be secured.

Besides, the parties talked about improvement of a regime of intellectual property rights’ protection with an aim to prolong advantages of U.S. Generalized System of Preferences (GPS) towards Ukraine.

The sides agreed to hold on February 5, 2013 an introductory TEG meeting targeting consideration of the urgent issues.

Ihor Prasolov highlighted: “Reforming of economic branches is the very essential task set in front of us by the President of Ukraine and the State program of activization of economics for 2013 – 2014. The new team recently appointed in the Government will direct every effort to modernization of production in a real economics sector and reactivation of the economics in whole.

“So, we are ready to advance cooperation between our countries,” the Minister said.
