New Zealand : Chorus, Alcatel-Lucent and Comptel collaborate to help Retail Service Providers

Publish Date : 14-Feb-2013

Alcatel-Lucent and software provider Comptel Corporation have agreed to offer a new Fibre Fulfillment and Inventory Solution to New Zealand\'s major telecommunications infrastructure company, Chorus, for their open access fibre services.

The solution will enable Retail Service Providers in New Zealand to develop innovative new services and provide a great experience for customers using the new Ultra Fast Broadband network.

In May 2011, Crown Fibre Holdings Ltd (CFH) offered a contract to Chorus to roll out Ultra Fast Broadband in 24 of the 33 areas across the country. This contract, in which Crown invests up to NZ$929 million will see Chorus deploy about 17,000km of new fibre optic cables to areas spanning around 70% of the households and businesses within the UFB Fibre to the Home footprint.

This latest collaboration between Chorus, Alcatel-Lucent and Comptel will ensure that Retail Service Providers can rapidly and effectively develop new product offerings and provide new customer connections on the Chorus ultra-fast broadband network.

Managing director of Alcatel-Lucent in New Zealand, Andrew Miller, said: \"Alcatel-Lucent\'s successful collaboration with the National Broadband Network initiative in Australia, combined with our specific local knowledge, made us the logical choice to lead this important project for Chorus. Providing a fulfillment and inventory system that is easily adaptable to the ultrafast broadband needs of Chorus\' customers and is critical to the success of the network rollout.

He added: \"We are also delighted to be working with Comptel to provide an OSS system that will assist Chorus and Chorus\' customers to move quickly toward the achievement of New Zealand\'s national broadband targets.\"

Comptel, Vice President, Asia-Pacific, Kari Jokela, said: \"This deployment with Chorus demonstrates the continued traction of our Next Generation Fulfillment strategy, and we\'re looking forward to seeing through the customer\'s high-speed broadband roll-out in New Zealand. Alcatel-Lucent\'s expertise as a leading systems integrator complements Comptel\'s flexible approach to service design, combined with our delivery capabilities, providing a fulfillment solution ideal perfectly suited to Chorus\' unique requirements.\"
