Kuwait,Yemen : YEMEN gets US$ 35 mln from KUWAIT to upgrade power grid

On Sunday, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and the Yemeni government signed a deal towards financing the upgrade of electricity distribution grid in Aden Governorate, south Yemen, at a cost of US$ 35 million.

Signing of the deal was done by Yemeni Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Mohammad Al-Saadi and KFAED representative Mohammad Sadeqi. The signing ceremony was attended by the director of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) office in Yemen Saad Al-Uraifi.

The project covers the areas of Al-Mansoura, Khor Mekser and Al-Khassaf in Aden and KFAED is to contribute KD 10 million towards the same.

Followed by the signing ceremony, the Yemeni minister had all praises for KFAED’s contributions facilitating the development of the infrastructure projects in his country.

Dr. Al-Saadi said, “The project aims to meet the growing demand for power in Aden Governorate through upgrading the dating grid and launching two power plants and new lines with a capacity of 132 kilo-volt.”

Sadeqi promised that the fund will continue to support Yemen’s initiative to improve infrastructure and public utilities and attain comprehensive development.
