Bangladesh,Japan : EGCB: 412MW Haripur Combined-cycle Power Plant to supply energy to the national grid from SEPTEMBER

Publish Date : 14-May-2013

The Managing Director of Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh Limited - Mostafa Kamal has recently revealed before the media persons that the 412MW Haripur combined-cycle power generation facility will start feeding electricity to the national grid in September this year.

The in-progress successful trial operation of this power plant has facilitated the company to make this announcement in recent times.

The 412MW Haripur power station will need 64 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas for commercial-scale production

The combined-cycle energy facility is the biggest under public sector after the existing government assumed power.

The new Haripur power plant has been developed on a land of 8.5 acres adjacent to the present site of 100MW power plant.

The Government of Bangladesh had inked a deal with a Japan-based corporation in February 2011 to establish the power plant.

The US$376 million energy facility is being developed via financial assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The project is being implemented by the EGCB in cooperation with the Japanese Marubeni Corporation as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor.

The EPC contract with Marubeni Corporation was inked on 9th February, 2011.

The scope of the project involves installation of one gas turbine (GT), one heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) with bypass stack, and one steam turbine (ST) together with steam bypass system and related steam/water cycle and plant supporting jobs.

The Government has prepared a master plan to produce energy of 35,000MW within 2030, while there has been much setback in the accomplishment of the bulk of the plans because of inadequate presentation by the private sector associates.

The Premier Sheikh Hasina had completed the foundation laying ceremony for this project on 20th March, 2011.
