Brazil,Peru : PERU granted license to build a 70 MW thermoelectric plant to GENRENT DO BRASIL
Publish Date : 21-May-2013
The Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversion) of Peru has revealed that the license to construct a 70 MW thermoelectric facility and deliver power to the Peruvian Amazon city of Iquitos on the short term basis has been awarded to the Brazilian company Genrent do Brasil.
ProInversion's license for the construction of a 70 MW thermoelectric plant will call for US$ 100 million worth of investments.
It has revealed that Genrent do Brasil secured the US$100 million project via "offering the lowest remuneration per power unit proposed, which was the competition factor in the process."
ProInversion Executive Director Javier Illescas has emphasized on the "importance of this project for a city like Iquitos," which lacked connection with the national power grid.
"The project will serve to improve electricity distribution capacity, reduce pollution and mitigate the city's recurring problems with power outages," the official stated.
The facility will offer services on a temporary basis until the operation commences at the Moyobamba-Iquitos transmission line, according to Illescas.
ProInversion aims to grant the contract for the aforesaid transmission line project in the current year.
Illescas has further said that the Genrent facility will work as a backup power source, after connection between Iquitos and the national grid is established.
The state agency has stated that the project also will see development of a 60 kV transmission line, and has added that the venture will be constructed by a 30-month period subsequent to the signing of the agreement intended for operation and maintenance of the same for 20 years.
