Oman : Turkish, Italian businessmen explore investment prospects

Publish Date : 11-Jun-2013

A delegation of Turkish businessmen yesterday visited the headquarters of the Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (SEZAD). The step mirrors the success made by the promotional campaign organised by the SEZAD in Istanbul from May 27 to 29. The campaign showcased the available investment opportunities in the Sultanate in general and SEZAD in particular. The delegation included businessmen representing industrial, commercial and construction sectors.

Ismail bin Ahmed al Balushi, Deputy CEO of SEZAD, said the visit reflects the level of interest in the ongoing and future projects in Duqm, which include the dry dock, Duqm Port, the airport, the residential city and other projects. He added that SEZAD offers many business opportunities in petrochemical, oil derivatives, oil-based industries, fish processing, tourism and infrastructure fields. Yahya bin Khamis al Zedjali, Deputy CEO for Planning and Engineering at SEZAD, gave a presentation on the existing and future projects in heavy industries, infrastructure and other fields.

Saleh al Hasani, Director of Investment, gave a visual presentation on the incentives, benefits and tax exemptions provided by SEZAD to investors. Meanwhile, an Italian trade delegation currently visiting the Sultanate yesterday met with Ahmed bin Sulaiman al Maimani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for Administrative and Financial Affairs and Regions Affairs. The delegation comprises representatives of the companies, businessmen and investors from the private sector.

The meeting reviewed the investment opportunities and the Sultanate's potentials, as well as the support given to the investors to set up huge projects in the Sultanate, in addition to the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and the incentives provided by the Sultanate to set up joint ventures between the two sides. The delegation's visit to the Sultanate comes to conduct a feasibility study on the potential of setting up two projects to establish an integrated fishing company and another one for the boats and ships industry in the Sultanate.
