Publish Date : 14-Jun-2013
Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on maritime cooperation with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the government authority behind Singapore's port and maritime development.
According to the MoU, DMCA and MPA is to explore probable areas of collaboration towards planning and regulation of marinas and waterways, enhancing maritime environment protection in accordance with international standards, carrying out maritime training and research, as well as exploring other mutual maritime areas of interest.
Signing of the MoU was carried out during a recently organised business trip to Singapore where a meeting was held between the delegation from Dubai led by DMCA Executive Director Amer Ali and MPA senior executives.
DMCA even held a meeting with the Singapore Chambers, and the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF), the private sector-led body that offers a representative voice for the maritime industry and works with the Singapore Government towards developing Singapore as an international maritime centre.
MPA's Assistant Chief Executive (Operations), Capt. M Segar, said, "The signing of the MOU between MPA and the DMCA is another pillar in reinforcing the bilateral ties between Singapore and the United Arab Emirates, and will provide a framework by which MPA and the DMCA can continue to closely cooperate on maritime issues of mutual interest."
Amer Ali, Executive Director, DMCA, added, "The signing of the MOU represents another important step forward in our mission to establish Dubai as a global maritime hub. Building on our shared experiences and our respective core capabilities, DMCA and MPA have been actively engaged in various discussions and exchange of information that have opened new possibilities for more meaningful cooperation in the future."
