France : Atos wins a major outsourcing contract with Veolia Environnement and becomes its IT partner in France

Publish Date : 24-Jun-2013

Heading towards a standardised and industrialised information system serving Veolia Environnement's strategy.

Atos, an international IT services company, has won a key contract with Veolia Environnement, the world leader in environmental services, to support its transformation by deploying a cluster of services shared between all of the Group divisions. In parallel, Atos is also taking charge of operating the French IT infrastructures and applications from its service centres for the next 5 years. The service deployment and branch integration methodology proposed by Atos enables the total contract performance duration to be reduced to 12 months.

The Veolia Environnement Group has initiated a strategic transformation programme to re-focus its activities relating to Water, Environmental Services and Energy, cut its costs and reduce its level of debt. In this context, improving IT efficiency is a major challenge and calls for the standardisation, mutualisation and centralisation of IT infrastructures within the Group's four large countries.

Atos, positioned by Gartner as a leader in its "Magic Quadrant for Data Center Outsourcing and Infrastructure Utility Services, Europe 2012", and an industrial leader, was selected by Veolia Environnement to rationalise and mutualise its infrastructures (more than 3,000 servers), all the while supplying state-of-the-art application management services (around 150 applications).

"Atos, a key player for major transformation and externalisation projects, knew how to convince Veolia Environnement to select it as a global IT partner, explains Jean-Marie Simon, CEO of Atos France. Helping Veolia Environnement to achieve its objectives means that Atos has to
- support the Veolia Group in its transformation, all the while ensuring the continuity of its existing services, standardise and mutualise IT resources
- ensure flexibility and agility, then design and implement an architecture based on the best technology whilst reducing infrastructure costs, and finally create the conditions suitable for evolution towards the Cloud."

Information management activities, for which Atos is the European leader, are ensured by more than 28,000 members of staff and represent more than €4 billion in turnover. Atos ensures information management for more than 140,000 servers, of which the virtualisation rate is already almost 40%. As far as Cloud activities are concerned, Atos generates a turnover of around €200 million through its structure dedicated to Cloud activities, known as CANOPY, the Open Cloud Company.
