United Kingdom : Veidekke wins major Bergen Light Rail project

Publish Date : 29-Jun-2013

Veidekke Entreprenřr AS has signed a contract with Bergen Light Rail Development & Construction to construct 2.7 kilometres of track from Lagunen to Sandslivegen. The project is worth NOK 634 million, excl. VAT, and includes a bridge, two stations and three tunnels.

The third and final construction phase of Bergen Light Rail is now being constructed, in other words the last five sections from Lagunen to Flesland Airport. Once the work is completed in 2016, Bergen Light Rail will stretch 20 kilometres between Bergen City Centre and Flesland Airport.

The project won by Veidekke is the largest contract in the third construction phase and consists of 2.7 kilometres of double track. The stretch includes the 60-metre Steinsvik Bridge, three tunnels with a total length of around 1.9 kilometres (the 700-metre Folldals Tunnel, the 570-metre Steinsvik Tunnel and the 600-metre Solhei Tunnel) as well as two stations at Rĺstřlen and Sandslivegen.

This is Veidekke's third contract for Bergen Light Rail. Besides a smaller six week project in the second construction phase, in 2008 and 2009 Veidekke constructed the section between Wergeland and Fantoft, which included two tunnels and three stations, during Bergen Light Rail's first construction phase.

Veidekke will start work in August and the project is scheduled for completion in October 2015.
