India : BHEL awards contract to ALSTOM
Publish Date : 03-Jul-2013
A contract has been presented to the Alstom by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to supply components and services for the 2x660 MW Suratgarh Super Thermal Power Project (STPP), situated in Suratgarh, Rajasthan, India. €27 million ($35 million) is estiamted to be the value of the contract.
Alstom will collaborate with BHEL in designing the boilers and supply identified pressure parts of the 660 MW supercritical boilers, along with windboxes under the scope of the contract. It will also help BHEL with technical advisors during the erection and commissioning of the units. Key components will be manufactured in Alstom's manufacturing facilities in Concordia (USA), as well as in Durgapur (India). It is anticipated the units I & II to be commissioned by 2016.
According to Patrick Ledermann, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Alstom Thermal Power in India, "Alstom's supercritical boilers are state-of-the-art technology and are designed to address the challenges of the power industry in India. This contract is yet another confirmation of the technological expertise enjoyed by Alstom in the field of supercritical boilers."
A confirmation of the strong cooperation is the new Suratgarh contract established since 2005 with BHEL. It comes in addition to eight contracts ratified with BHEL between 2008 to 2013 for supercritical boilers in Barh II, Krishnapatnam, Bara, Yermaras, Bellary, Mouda and most recently Nabinagar and Gadarwara in India.
It is aiding the Alstom's supercritical boiler technology in achieving about 3-4% higher plant efficiency compared to conventional subcritical design. The contract was booked in Q1 of financial year 2013-2014.
