Ukraine : Political and business relations between Ukraine and Europe should not depend on the fate of Tymoshenko

Publish Date : 08-Jul-2013

Political and business relations between Ukraine and the European countries should not depend on the fate of Yuliya Tymoshenko.

This opinion was expressed by Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov in an interview with Le nouvel Economiste (France).

"Our political and business relationships should not depend on the fate of one person. This is not only our position," the head of the Ukrainian government said. He added a few members of the European Union have the same opinion. In particular, the Prime Minister of Estonia Andrus Ansip during talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that it is wrong to make the integration of Ukraine contingent upon the case concerning Tymoshenko.

"Ukraine's position remains the same as it is legal," Mykola Azarov said.

He informed the magazine that the relatively Tymoshenko carried out several trials. One of them is in the case of the harming of economic damage to Ukraine in the amount of 405 million dollars by the UESU Corporation, which was once headed by Tymoshenko.

"Only according to the gas contract, which she signed in 2009, we (Ukraine) overpay more than $ 7 billion per year. When the Ukrainian people receive bills for gas, he knows that it pays too high price," Prime Minister of Ukraine said.

He recalled that Y. Tymoshenko has not paid debts for Russian gas received in exchange for the provision of building materials to the Ministry of Defense of the RF. As a result, the Defense Ministry of Russia for several years demanded that Ukraine pay these debts. "The Russians appealed to the Ukrainian court and won a lawsuit so the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has to pay the debts of the corporation by the expense of the budget, Mykola Azarov said. In Ukraine, as in France, the executive power can not interfere in the judicial system."

In addition, a judicial proceeding in connection with the seizure of $ 250 million of the former Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Lazarenko continues in the U.S. "American Justice argued that the money obtained through corruption. If you take reports of this process, you will see that almost on every page Tymoshenko appears as accomplices of Lazarenko," the Prime Minister noted.

At the same time, Mykola Azarov said, Tymoshenko has no intention to cooperate with the investigation: "She ignores judicial hearing and of the previous investigation. That's why the trial is still continuing."

He added that the issue of treatment of Tymoshenko abroad may be considered in accordance with current Ukrainian legislation, if doctors, including from the Charité German clinic find a good reason for this.
