Qatar : QPMC inks EPC contract to engineer and design Gabbro terminal expansion project

Publish Date : 27-Aug-2013

Qatar Primary Materials Company (QPMC) declared that it has entered into an engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract with FLSmidth and Six Construct to design and engineer the Gabbro Terminal Expansion Project in Mesaieed.

According to Khalid al-Rabban, QPMC chairman, the project calls for an integrated set of conveyors, dust suppression systems, sub-stations and stackers to streamline the imports of aggregate and its storage into Qatar.

QPMC said, "The Gabbro Terminal Expansion Project will enable aggregate importers to import large volumes directly as a result of which the truck traffic into the Gabbro berths will significantly reduce. The success of the Gabbro Terminal expansion will also necessitate new storage use regulations and tariff structures that the importers will need to follow to ensure its smooth operations."

al-Rabban said, "We are delighted to have entered into a contract with FLSmidth and Six Construct with the commencement of this project, which is due to be completed in some 29 months. We expect to increase the discharge capacity at the Gabbro berths in Mesaieed to 30mn tonnes per year from its existing 20mn tonnes. QPMC would have then fulfilled one of its major commitments to the service of the country."

A contract to engineer and design, procure, install, construct, commission conveyors, stackers, hoppers, weighing systems with related civil works, structural steel, electrical infrastructure, instrumentation and control systems with a management system capable of handling 30mn tonnes of aggregate through the Gabbro Terminal to the new designated area has been awarded to FLSmidth and Six Construct.

The best international practices will be used for the project to be finish time as per the company's requirements on health and safety and environmental issues in its operation with the assistance of Qatar Petroleum/Mesaieed Industrial City for a smooth implementation of the project.
