Hong Kong : Thales awarded CBTC signalling contract for Hong Kong's Metro Lines

Thales announces that it has been awarded a contract by Hong Kong's metro operator, MTR Corporation, to signal the SCL line's (Shatin to Central Link) Phase 1 segment using a Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system. The contract includes the modernisation of the MOL (Ma On Shan Line) and WRL (West Rail Line) lines, in order to bring about fully automatic train operation. Thales previously installed its CBTC solution on these two tracks in 2003/04.
The SCL project will connect several existing railway lines so as to form two strategic railway corridors; "East West" and "North South". The existing MOL line, starting at Wu Kai Sha Station, will link up with the WRL line, forming a continuous 57 km line that further improves connectivity to the New Territories.

James Kilazoglou, country director of Thales in Hong Kong, said: "We are pleased to be awarded this five year project providing MTR with a continuous, seamless operation from East to West Hong Kong. The SCL is now our seventh signalling project in Hong Kong, and we are proud to be part of MTR's growth activities to continually improve mobility in the city and surrounding areas."
