United States : TAQA's DEAL for AMEC
Publish Date : 10-Sep-2013
AMEC has won a contract from TAQA's UK-focused oil and gas business to supply engineering services to the Tern oil production platform in the northern North Sea. AMEC will supply the engineering, procurement and construction of modifications to the platform to hold a new subsea tie-back to the Cladhan field. The firm will also offer commissioning support. The contract award comes after AMEC's conclusion of the front-end engineering design (FEED) for the project. Work will start soon and will run through to December 2014.
AMEC has recently opened two new offices in Aberdeen, Scotland to support this work and growth from other existing contracts. The new offices will hold about 300 people.
Alan Johnstone, managing director of AMEC's Europe brownfield and asset management business said, "I'm delighted that we have won the opportunity to demonstrate to TAQA our brownfield engineering capability and we look forward to building a successful relationship with them."
In April 2013, the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) gave approval for a plan of development for the Cladhan field. The first phase of development will include two oil producers and one injection well. Production of Cladhan will be tied-back to the TAQA-operated Tern Alpha platform. The tie-back will extend 11 miles. Field production will make 17,000 barrels of oil equivalent daily (boepd) with first oil slated for 1Q 2015.
The Cladhan field is situated on Blocks 210/29a and 210/30a in the UK sector of the North Sea in a water depth of 1,634 feet. TAQA Bratani, holding a 40.1 percent interest, operates Cladhan; Wintershall owns 33.5 percent; and Sterling owns 26.4 percent.
