United States : AT&T enters Global Alliance Agreement with GE for Machine-to-Machine Solutions
Publish Date : 16-Oct-2013
AT&T declared that it has inked a global alliance agreement with GE, allowing GE machines to connect to the AT&T network and cloud, developing the first highly-secure wireless communications system for GE's "Industrial Internet."
According to the companies, with their machine-to-machine (M2M) communications system customers will be benefited from increased productivity. It will enable workers to remotely track, monitor, record and operate GE machinery, virtually across the world.
Both AT&T and GE are planning to develop offerings that meld AT&T network technologies, single Global SIM (subscriber identity module), device expertise, security, and cloud access for industrial products, like electric vehicle chargers, lighting and engines. The companies also intend to collaborate in the AT&T Foundry innovation center to build M2M solutions for GE's software platform Predix that can proactively maintain and remotely control industrial machines.
"Condition monitoring with alerts prior to equipment failure has moved into the mainstream with this adoption by major companies like GE and AT&T," said Ralph Rio, ARC Advisory Group.
AT&T is a global leader in developing and deploying M2M communications and has a proven M2M success record, with millions of emerging devices connected to its network. AT&T experienced a 38 percent increase in number of M2M customers over the last year.
