Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (Chairman & CEO Geewon Park) signed a US$ 800 million contract with a client, Korea Midland Power Co.ltd, to supply core equipment and facilities for Sinboryeong Thermal Power Plants No. 1 and 2.
Sinboryeong Thermal Power Plants No. 1 and 2 are the first 1000MW-class ultra-supercritical (USC) coal-fired thermal power plants to be developed using homegrown technology. In fact, these eco-friendly, high-efficiency power plants are far more efficient than conventional coal-fired thermal power plants and generate less carbon dioxide.
Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction carried out the state-funded project to develop a 1000MW-class, USC coal-fired thermal power generation system over a period of eight years, successfully developing a model unique to Korea in 2008. The company signed the "Agreement for Joint Development of Technology to Commercialize a Korean Standard 1000 MW-class USC Thermal Power Plant" with Korea Midland Power Company in 2010 and has since been pushing to implement a demonstration project at Sinboryeong Power Plants No. 1 and 2.
Sinboryeong Power Plants No. and 2 will be constructed by 2017 at a site near the village of Songhak-ni (Jugyo-myeon, Boryeong City) in Chungcheongnam-do. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction will be supplying two items, boilers and turbogenerators, to each of the two power plants.
Hwangjik Lee, head of the Boiler BG at Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, said, "The successful implementation of the Korean Standard 1000MW-class coal-fired thermal power plant is the culmination of the joint development pursued by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction and Korea Midland Power Co. over a period of more than ten years. This marks a significant achievement in Korea's power industry." He added, "By banking on our supply of facilities to Sinboryeong Power Plants No. 1 and 2, we will accelerate our advancement into both the local and foreign markets in earnest."
Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has produced and supplied most of the main equipment for thermal power plants in Korea, including 500MW-class standard thermal power plants, such as the Dangjin, Samcheonpo, Boryeong and Taean thermal power plants, and the 800MW-class Yeongheung Thermal Power Plant, spearheading the development of the nation's power industry.
