AUSTRALIA,UNITED KINGDOM : Airbus secures Ł6 billion deal from Qantas
Publish Date : 12-Oct-2011
Airbus, leading global manufacturer of aircrafts, obtained Ł6 billion deal from Qantas.
Qantas will purchase 78 A320neo and 32 A320s, after a commitment inked in August, to unveil a new airline in Asia. Airbus will carry out part-designing and engineering of A320neos at Filton. The company will also carry out landing gear, fuel systems and wiring at the plant.
According to John Leahy, COO of Airbus, the company is pleased with this multi-billion pound deal.
Airbus A320 is world’s best selling single-aisle aircraft family with over 7,900 orders to date while A320neo is a new engine option for A320 developed to reduce fuel and CO2 emissions. A320neo combines huge Sharklet wing tips. With this, planes can fly an extra 600 miles with same amount of fuel.
\"The A320 Family’s outstanding operational efficiency and comfort, plus its environmental credentials, make it the right choice for the Qantas Group,\" said Alan Joyce, CEO of Qantas.
According to Joyce, this is the biggest single order in aviation history of Australia.
