ST Aerospace's commercial pilot training arm, ST Aerospace Academy (STAA) has been awarded an extension contract to train another 60 cadet pilots for Xiamen Airlines. Starting from March 2014, the cadets will undergo a three-month intensive English language enhancement training in China, before embarking on a 14-month integrated Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) programme, certified by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, in Ballarat, Australia. The signature of this second contract follows that of the first contract in late 2012 - the first two batches of cadets will be graduating in 2014.
"Our first batch of pilots was well trained by STAA's highly qualified instructors and its accredited training methodologies. We are pleased with the results of our first cooperation, which is why we are happy to renew our partnership with STAA. We are fully confident of STAA's capabilities in helping us to meet our operational needs for well qualified pilots." - Capt ZHANG Chaoshun, General Manager, Flight Standards Department, Xiamen Airlines.
"STAA is delighted to be selected once again, as Xiamen Airlines' preferred pilot training partner. This contract extension is clear proof of Xiamen Airlines' confidence in our programmes and capabilities. As a world-class pilot training academy with a comprehensive range of aircraft and well equipped facilities, we are fully committed to bring to new heights the strong relationship that ST Aerospace and Xiamen Airlines have established together over the years." Kevin KHOO, President, ST Aerospace Academy.
Xiamen Airlines has been ST Aerospace's customer for maintenance services since 1990. Over the years, this fruitful partnership has been extended to include engine repair and overhaul, engine maintenance-by-the-hour and pilot training. Operating out of Seletar Airport in Singapore and Ballarat Airport in Melbourne, Australia, STAA has been providing ab-initio training programmes under the CPL and Multi-crew Pilot Licence (MPL) curricula since 2008. In addition, its service portfolio has recently been expanded to include advanced courses such as multi crew co-operation, type rating and recurrent training.
Today, more than 300 cadets have graduated and are flying for major airlines worldwide. Its customers include Juneyao Airlines, Qatar Airways, SF Airlines, Tigerair Singapore and Xiamen Airlines. STAA is the first non-airline affiliated flight training organisation headquartered in Singapore to offer commercial pilot training services to network airlines and low cost carriers.
