Publish Date : 25-Feb-2014
Rail division of Drake & Scull has won a new $9.5mn contract to build a new airport passenger movement system at Dubai International Airport, for moving people between the newly-built Concourse 4 at the airport and Terminal 1.
This project comes as the first rail project won by Drake & Scull's dedicated rail division in the Middle East. It will cover complete MEP works and railway services to include signals, traction power, maintenance of area power, compressed air and communications systems.
Acting as main contractor, ALEC is constructing the Concourse 4, where in Bombardier will provide rolling stock and rail technology at the airport. Bombardier is also developing a new monorail system to link Concourse 4 and Terminal 1.
Drake & Scull Rail's operations director, Darko Macura, stated that, "We are delighted to secure our first rail project in the Middle East, and are excited and proud to be a part of the prestigious Dubai International Airport project that combines airport and railway infrastructure."
"We are happy to continue the rich history of DSI’s rail projects from Europe and Asia in the Middle East and we hope to pick up more work in the region," said Macura adding that already the company has executed work on projects such as London's Jubilee Line extension and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link as well as at Hong Kong's metro.
He added, "We would like to offer our integrated end to end engineering services to major projects including metro rails in Riyadh, Jeddah, Mecca, Medina, Dammam and Doha and Etihad Rail (UAE). Kuwait and Oman are other promising prospects, and of course, India remains one of the biggest rail markets in Asia and we are actively pursuing opportunities over there."
