France,Georgia,India,Turkey : ALSTOM led consortium bags €30m contract to equip 178MW project in GEORGIA

A consortium led by Alstom has received a contract worth around €30m to equip the 178.6MW Shuakhevi hydropower plant in Georgia.

The agreement covers two vertical 89.3MW Francis turbines and firms share in the contract is worth around $20m. Commissioning of the plant is expected in 2016.

Production of the main turbines and generators will be carried out at Alstom's Vadodara facility in Gujarat while supply of electrical and mechanical balance-of-plant items will be carried out partially from Alstom's unit in India and in Turkey.

Alstom chief operating officer of hydro Jacques Hardelay said, "Being the supplier for this prestigious project, Alstom is proud to help Georgia in reducing its carbon footprint through renewable power generation."

Shuakhevi project forms part of one of the largest foreign direct investment projects in Georgia in its history and will provide energy to Georgia and Turkey to address peak demand during winter. Shuakhevi is the first among three hydro projects being developed by Adjaristsqali Georgia, a consortium of Clean Energy Invest of Norway, the Tata Power Company of India and the International Financing Corporation.
