Martifer SGPS's subsidiary, Martifer Solar will be constructing a 78.4MWp portfolio of photovoltaic (PV) plants in the UK.

Martifer Solar has inked an EPC contract with Lightsource Renewable Energy for the construction of four plants in the counties of Cambridgeshire, Devon, Nottingham and Swindon. This deal comes after the successful completion of the first round of the previously announced 50MW in development.

Martifer Solar, under an operation and maintenance (O&M) contract, will have to ensure the optimal performance of the plants.

Martifer Solar country manager said, "We have been very active developers in the UK market and are looking forward to a continued healthy pipeline of utility-scale projects in development to be ready to build throughout 2014 and early 2015."

Nearly 308,418 modules were utilised for the five PV plants installed in ground-mounted fixed structures, on an area of around 155 hectares.

On annual basis, the total portfolio of plants will generate around 69.05GWh of clean energy, while it will generate equivalent energy to supply the average consumption of 38,815 inhabitants.
