The Contract of the Project "Day Care Centre for Children and Youth with Multiple Disabilities" was signed on the 21st of February 2014 between the Directorate General for European Programmes, Coordination and Development and the Social Welfare Services, which will be co financed from the EEA Grants 2009-2014.
The project will be implemented by the Social Welfare Services of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance. Funding for the implementation of the project will be provided to Cyprus on the basis of the relevant provisions of the approved Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Republic of Cyprus and the three Donor States of the EEA Financial Mechanism (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) in December 2011, as well as the Programme Agreement with the EEA Financial Mechanism signed on the 5th of December 2012.
The total budget of the project is €638.200. The EEA Grants will provide 59.42% of the total project budget, which amounts to €379,225, while the Republic of Cyprus will provide 40.58% of the total project budget, which amounts to €258,975.
The main purpose of the project is to enhance the services offered to children and young people with multiple disabilities by converting Nea Eleousa from an institution that operates on a 24-hour basis, providing care to children and young people with multiple disabilities, to a Day Care Centre. The new Day Care Centre will offer a wide range of services to children and young people with Multiple Disabilities under one roof, aiming to provide them with a better quality of life.
The implementation of this project will contribute to the combating of social exclusion of the target group, to the reduction of the barriers which isolate people with disabilities and to their reintegration into the community.
The contract was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Directorate General for European Programmes, Coordination and Development, Mr George Georghiou, on behalf of the Programme Operator, and by the Director of the Social Welfare Service, Ms Toula Kouloumou, on behalf of the Project Promoter. The signing took place at the premises of the Directorate General for European Programmes, Coordination and Development in Nicosia.
