Finland : WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC receives contract to supply two new traversing incore probe (TIP) systems
Publish Date : 14-Mar-2014
Westinghouse Electric has won a contract from Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) for supplying two new traversing incore probe (TIP) systems to be used in two boiling water reactors (BWR) of the Olkiluoto Nuclear Power Plant in Finland.
The contract is to be carried out jointly between Westinghouse Electric Sweden and Toshiba. It includes production as well as installation of 28 new guide tubes and supply of electrical installation and instrument and control (I&C) cubicles for control and measuring.
Westinghouse will have to manage the overall project, including mechanical/electrical installation and commissioning.
The TIP system would likely be used for calibration of incore neutron flux detectors which monitor the power levels and distribution in the Olkiluoto 1 and 2 units.
Westinghouse Northern Europe vice president and managing director Johan Hallen stated that, "We believe this agreement reflects TVO's high confidence in the quality and reliability that Westinghouse and Toshiba together can bring to TVO."
Toshiba Power Systems Company Nuclear Energy Systems & Sevices Division vice president Mamoru Hatazawa added, "Toshiba's TIP system can interface with various types of plant computer and human-machine interfaces."
Production and assembly of majority of the equipment will be in Japan, and will undergo a factory acceptance test in December 2015 before shipment.
Delivery to the Olkiluoto reactors is scheduled for January 2016, while installation will take place during planned outages at Unit 1 in 2016 and Unit 2 in 2017.
