United States: TOLLGRADE COMMUNICATIONS announces availability of VBT Manager Software Application

Publish Date : 20-Mar-2014

In the latest uprade to their VBT handheld testing tool for internet service providers, Tollgrade Communications has launched the VBT Manager software application.

Virtual-broadband technician software, installed at the residential modem, works to identify and resolve issues at the customer premises (in the home or local access network) that are hard to diagnose and can disrupt or slow down broadband services, resulting in costly repeat field repair visits.

The addition of the VBT Manager, a software interface to the VBT that operates on a field tech's laptop enables service providers to aggregate all the results from tests conducted by the VBT in the field, store test results centrally and gauge compliance to field repair processes for the first time.

This enables a service provider to actualize substantial savings, more rapidly troubleshoot service calls and standardize test procedures to remove repeat dispatches and chronic issues.

The VBT and VBT Manager are at present being used in North America and are successfully decreasing repeat dispatches by more than 50 percent.

VP, global sales, broadband, at Tollgrade, Mark B. Peterson, said : 'Until now, broadband service providers have not been able to measure compliance with their field procedures, nor have they been able to send aggregate in-home repair data directly into their operational support system before or after a fault is resolved. The VBT Manager is the only tool available allowing service providers to know if their field technicians are in compliance with field repair processes. In our first deployments, the VBT has reduced repeat dispatches by more than 50 percent while standardizing and improving repair and reporting processes. By correctly pinpointing problems that would otherwise have been left undiagnosed, the VBT pays for itself after the first saved dispatch.'
