HONG KONG : Leighton Holdings wins $1.2b Hong Kong rail joint venture

A contract worth $1.2 billion has been awared to engineering and construction firm Leighton Holdings alongwith Gammon a partner company to construct a railway station for an express rail link which will run between Hong Kong and China.

The contract was inked between Leighton Asia (in collaboration with Gammon) and MTR Corporation to build the West Kowloon Terminus Station North, part of the Guangzhou-Shenzen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link.

This is the largest and ultimate civil contract to be awarded for the link and the fifth MTR Corporation contract to be grabbed up by Leighton Asia in the recent two years.

Leighton stated :\"The project will provide a world-class rail terminus and serve as an international gateway to the mainland of China, with a daily pass-through of over 100,000 passengers,\" adding that MTR Corporation was a significant client that planned up to $7.6 billion worth of new ventures over the following five years.
