Publish Date : 01-Apr-2014

Ashghal, Qatar's Public Works Authority has awarded a contract worth $1.7 billion (QR6.15bn) to a joint venture between Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) and Al Jaber Engineering to design and build the New Orbital Highway and Truck Route (PO23), Contract 3, near Doha.

"The new project further strengthened the Group's presence in Qatar, where HLG has worked successfully with government clients, such as Kahramaa, since 2009," said HLG CEO and managing director, Antonio Lopez-Monis, "Qatar is a very important market for HLG. We have had a local office in Doha since 2005, and during this time we have been involved in a number of projects perfectly aligned with our expertise and exerience."

Package 3 of the large-scale urban infrastructure project connects the Mesaieed industrial area and New Port Projects to Salwa Road, and covers a total of around 56km of roadworks and five main interchanges that will service the projected increase in the area's traffic.

He said, "The Orbital Highway is a major opportunity for HLG and our joint venture partner Al Jaber Engineering, and we are pleased to have been selected by Ashghal to work in partnership with them to deliver such an important part of national infrastructure for Qatar."

It is estimated that the design and construction works will be finished in 36 months.
