Engenco stated that it has secured two maintenance contracts collectively worth about $5 Million for the A-series electric commuter trains run by the WA Public Transport Authority in Perth.
The contracts were inked between Gemco Rail, Engenco's specialist rail maintenance services business, and EDI Rail-Bombardier Transportation (Maintenance), the joint venture between Downer EDI and Bombardier Transportation Australia, which is contracted to offer cleaning and maintenance services for the whole fleet of narrow gauge trains for the PTA.
The PTA's A-series fleet comprises of 48 two-car trains, which work on Perth's suburban railway system.
Engenco's four-year contracts are to service and maintain bogies and wheel-sets as part of EDI Rail Bombardier's commitment to maintain the A-series fleet.
The work will be perform at Gemco Rail's specialist rolling-stock maintenance facilities at Forrestfield.
Engenco managing director Ross Dunning said that the Gemco Rail team had been working closely with EDI Rail Bombardier to develop the procedures needed for this highly-skilled overhaul process for the past 18 months.
He said, "This contract is another instance of how Engenco's focus on customers' needs has led to a tailored solution for EDI Rail Bombardier".
"We look forward to working closely with EDI Rail Bombardier to ensure optimal performance of the A-series trains, with the intent of providing an uninterrupted service to the Perth public."
