Luxembourg : VODACOM awards Africa-wide broadband service contract to INTELSAT
Publish Date : 03-Apr-2014
Vodacom has awarded a contract to satellite operator Intelsat for the provision of managed broadband services all over Africa.
As per the deal, Intelsat will be helping Vodacom in offering a differentiated broadband service mainly targeting small office/home office (SOHO) and small and medium enterprise (SME) users.
Intelsat will offer Ku-band satellite broadband capacity to Vodacom on Intelsat 28 at 32.8 degrees east, apart from providing a fully integrated and managed solution powered by Hughes broadband satellite technology.
Grant Marais, Intelsat's regional vice president, Africa, said, "We worked closely with Vodacom to address their future business demands, providing capacity through traditional wide and high-throughput satellite spot beams to locations where our customers need it most."
Marais said, "It also reinforces our ability to work with our customers such as Vodacom to anticipate their emerging business demands and tailor our broadband solutions to best fit their business needs and economic model."
The Intelsat 33e satellite will begin operations in 2016, enabling Vodacom to seamlessly access a high performance overlay.
