UNITED STATES : U.S. NAVY $118.9 million contract awarded to Newport News Shipbuilding

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. has declared that its Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) unit has secured a cost-plus-fixed-fee, level-of-effort contract option worth $118.9 million from the U.S. Navy.

The contract option includes work on Los Angeles-class, Seawolf-class, Virginia-class and Ohio-class submarines, special mission submersible interfaces, submarine support facilities and related programs. The prime contractor for the job is NNS, to mainly include engineering, design, configuration management, integrated logistic support, database management and upgrade support.

Jim Hughes, NNS\' vice president, Submarines and Fleet Support said, “Maintaining an optimal fleet for the U.S. Navy is our commitment, and we take pride in not only building the world\'s most advanced submarines, but also maintaining them throughout their service life.”

Contracted work is scheduled to start on immediate basis and will continue till September 2012.
