UNITED KINGDOM : Lafarge received a Ł35m framework contract for the Network Rail
Publish Date : 05-Nov-2011
Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK has secured a Ł35m framework contract for providing ballast for the Network Rail for the following five years. The contract is a result of a 20-year partnership existing between the quarry and Network Rail.
The material will be supplied from Mountsorrel Quarry of Lafarge in Leicestershire. Supply of granite will be done in the form of a 50mm crushed rock for track beds.
Through this deal Lafarge will be able to invest Ł2m in new processing equipment at the quarry.
Lafarge national key account manager John Bradshaw said, “There is a good chance anyone who has ever been on a train and looked down at the track will have seen Mountsorrel granite, as historically, Lafarge have supplied something like 50% of the ballast used by Network Rail.”
This work even includes sands, gravels, civil grade stone and specialised small grade Stoneblower aggregate.
