BULGARIA,TURKEY : Bulgarian-Turkish consortium won €77 million airport construction contract

Bulgarian-Turkish consortium, TIE- ICTAS, has been awarded a contract worth €77 million to construct new passenger terminals at Burgas and Varna airports. TIE- ICTAS is a consortium consisting of Turkish construction company ICTAS Holding, and Bulgarian firm Technoimportexport. The contract is been awarded by Airport operator Fraport Twin Star Airport Management.
The project even consists of the construction of new retail areas and open spaces at the gateways and a new baggage handling system. Work on the new terminals at both Varna and Burgas airports is scheduled to commence from December 2011. The work should be completed by Summer 2013.
Upon completion, the new terminal\'s capacity at Burgas Airport will be raised to 2.7mppa and that of Vargas will be of 1.8mppa.
The new terminal at Burgas will be equipped with 31 check-in desks and the Varna Airport will be having 25.
It is worth noting that, a German-Bulgarian consortium consisting of Fraport and Bulgarian logistic firm BM Star manages both the airports.
