UNITED STATES : Two light-rail grant deals worth $900 million signed by FTA
Publish Date : 30-Nov-2011
Peter Rogoff, Chairman, Federal Transit Authority has signed two grant agreements, worth $450 million each, in Houston which will be diverted for construction of Metro light-rail lines presently under construction.
The transit agency authorized a $153 million contract with rail-car provider CAF in September.
Till now, Metro has secured $84.5 million in grant.
According to the Metro, the new deal for purchasing 39 light-rail vehicles has been a competitive procedure with \'fully complaint\' CAF giving \'the best value\' to the transit agency.
Difficulties with the earlier CAF deal for procuring 103 LRVs, sanctioned in the month of March 2009, became evident to Metro by mid-April 2009, when the FTA did not accept a request for two prototype LRVs be constructed outside the United States.
