INDIA: Bombardier Bags $214.42 Million India Rail Contract
Publish Date : 01-Dec-2011
Bombardier, one of the largest manufacturers of railway equipment in the world, has won a contract worth about $214.42 million to make railway equipment for India\'s Mumbai Railway Vikas Corp (MRVC). The Indian firm is a joint venture between the Government of Maharashtra and the Ministry of Railways. The Government of India and the World Bank is equally funding the project.
As per the deal, Bombardier will design, make and test train propulsion and control equipment, as well as other equipment like high voltage instruments, compressors, fans and passenger information systems.
The order relates to a total of 72 commuter trains of 12 cars each. The parts will be designed at the company sites in Mannheim, Germany and the new railway vehicle site in Savli, Vadodara, India.
Bombardier said deliveries will start in the last quarter of 2012 and will be complete during the third quarter of 2014.
Bombardier president and managing director in India, Benoit Cattin Martel said,\"We will continue consolidating our position to provide support to India\'s railway systems. This latest order is a prestigious project and the biggest for our Propulsion and Controls unit in India.\"
Bombardier president of Propulsion and Controls, Per Allmer quoted that the order confirms the unique place that Bombardiera MITRAX Propulsion and Control system has in the Indian market. They provide a complete chain of sustainable and reliable solutions for a full spectrum of rail vehicles. This is a great endorsement of their growing relationship in India and pushes them to pursue other projects in the nation.
This deal follows Bombardier winning an order in September for 76 metro cars for Delhi Metro Rail Corp. The agreement included 114 vehicles and is worth about INR6.2 billion.
