UNITED STATES : $1.3B Honolulu rail contract awarded to Ansaldo

Ansaldo\'s Honolulu Joint Venture, a consortium including Finmeccanica companies Ansaldo STS and AnsaldoBreda, has inked a deal with the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation. The contract is for providing the technology and vehicles for the driver less metro line progressing in Honolulu.

According to Ansaldo, the contract is worth around $1.334 billion and comprises of the design, build, operate and maintain (DBOM) the 20-mile line, having 21 stations. Ansaldo STS will get around $1.136 billion share in the deal and $198 million is AnsaldoBreda’s share.

Design and construction work will take around eight years. The initial stretch of track is expected to enter into operations at the beginning of 2015 and the entire line to be made operational from 2019 to 2029.
