Publish Date : 03-Dec-2011

Bharti Airtel announced that it has inked a new five-year agreement with Ericsson extending its managed services agreement for its Indian operations.

As per the new agreement, Ericsson will operate and offer services across 70% of the operator’s network in the country and will also responsible for the intelligent network that manages Bharti Airtel’s prepaid customer base.

Bharti Airtel will expand and extend contract across 15 telecom licence areas or circles for five years.

“With India emerging as the third largest internet market and a multifold growth in data traffic on the back of a rising number of smartphones, wireless networks need to be ready for the data revolution that has only just begun,” said Sanjay Kapoor, CEO for India and South Asia at Bharti Airtel.

“The rapid increase in customer numbers, and the network complexities due to multiple technology overlays defines the need for a renewed focus on differentiated user experience,” said Fredrik Jejdling, head of Ericsson India.
