SAUDI ARABIA : Contracts worth $586.6m awards for Madinah water project

The Saudi Group 5 Company and the Sinopec International Petroleum Service Corporation, each awarded contracts worth $586.6m, part of a $3.9bn project to transmit 550,000m3 of water daily to Madinah and its environs through a 603km pipe network from the Al-Madinah desalination plant.

The contracts will see Phase 3 of the project, which will generate 4,000m3 of water daily until 2030, in addition to 2,500MW. The first contract, worth of at $183.4m, is with the Saudi Group 5 Company for the manufacture and importation of the pipes for the project.

The second contract , with Sinopec International Petroleum Service Corporation, covers the water transmission system and pumping stations. The pacts have been signed by the Minister of Water and Electricity and Chairman of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), Abdullah Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Hussayen, in Riyadh.

Al-Hussayen said, “The capacity of this project is double the current capacity of Yanbu 1 and 2. It will meet the future water demand in Madinah and its governates.”
