FRANCE : Alstom wins €900m contract to build Polish Coal-fired plant
Publish Date : 12-Dec-2011
French engineering group Alstom has secured a contract worth of €900m to deliver core power generation equipment for a proposed 900MW coal fired power plant. Elektrownia Rybnik (ERSA) awarded the contract, which will be executed in two phases.
Alstom will deliver the boiler, its coal milling system and the complete turbine hall, including steam turbine, generator and the balance-of-plant auxiliaries, under the terms of the contract. €100m ($134m) first phase of the contract comprises pre-engineering and support to ERSA during the permitting process and is effective soon.
€800m ($1.07bn) second phase, will be effective after the full notice to proceed, expected mid-2013. The design, engineering, supply, erection, commissioning and testing of the delivered equipment will be done by Alstom.
Commercial operations of the plant will start in 2017. ERSA operates a 1775MW hard coal fired power plant at Rybnik that includes eight units commissioned over the period of 1972-1978, at present.
The contract further bolsters Alstom\'s leadership in super critical technology in Europe and the rest of world, said Alstom\'s senior vice president of steam business Andreas Lusch. He added, “Our growing references in Poland clearly demonstrate the confidence that our customers place on this technology to produce cleaner, cheaper and reliable power allowing it to maximize local supplies and the project execution.”
