SAUDI ARABIA : GE and Saudi Electricity sign agreement worth $300 million deal

General Electric and Saudi Electricity Company signed USD 300 million deals to provide 13 gas turbines and associated services for the expansion of six power plants at various locations across the country. The expansions will add nearly 800 megawatts of power to the Saudi grid by the summer of 2013.

With this new contracts, the number of GE turbines for SEC projects has reached around to 200 turbines in the last five years. GE supports generation of nearly half of Saudi Arabia\'s electricity. The latest plant expansions support SEC\'s plans to raise its power capabilities all over Saudi Arabia, also covering the remote areas of the Kingdom.

\"The expansion projects are part of our overall strategy to add an average of 4,000 megawatts of power annually to the grid in Saudi Arabia as we continue to face a growing demand for reliable electricity,\" said Eng. Ali Saleh Al Barrak, president and CEO for SEC.

Mr Paul Browning president and CEO of GE Energy\'s thermal products division said that 62% of GE\'s employees or 450 people are Saudi. Upto 2015 he hopes to employ 2,000 Saudis. GE has trained around 40 Saudis and has provided employment to 30 of them, in cooperation with the Technical Vocational Training Corporation. Further, GE hopes to train 100 Saudis per year.
