Publish Date : 14-Dec-2011
Ausgrid awarded a $140 million contract to Leighton subsidiary Thiess to deliver infrastructure for Sydney\'s electricity requirements. The 132-kilovolt City East Cable Tunnel (CECT) project will draw on Thiess\' tunneling expertise to construct the 3.2-kilometre tunnel under the city.
The proposed tunnel will connect the existing City North substation in Sussex Street to a new substation in Riley Street, Surry Hills. The contract as a further endorsement of Thiess\' diverse portfolio of tunneling achievements, said Theiss managing director Bruce Munro.
