UNITED STATES : United Streetcar secures $8.7 million DC order

Washington, D.C. awarded an $8.7 million order to Clackamas, Ore.-based United Streetcar, LLC, a subsidiary of Oregon Iron Works, Inc. to deliver two streetcars to improve the city’s three-car fleet.
Presently, the nation\'s capital is building its H Street/Benning Line in the northeast portion of the city, which is anticipated to launch in 2013, as part of a 37-mile streetcar system. The order is the third success for United Streetcar, a manufacturing upstart that also has secured streetcar orders from Portland, Ore., and Tucson, Ariz, though modest in size.
