Publish Date : 22-Dec-2011
Fiji Electricity has signed $27.8 million contract with Sinohydro Corporation of China for hydro-electric project.
Hasmukh Patel, FEA chief executive, opined that after completion of this project FEA would save around $4.26m per year.
Mr Patel further said that the arrest of additional water during heavy rainfall by raising weir wall was noticed as a desirable development for Wainisavulevu Weir by generating additional power.
He quoted, \"In light of the above, the FEA has embarked upon a capital works project to raise the height of the Wainisavulevu Weir by eight metres at a total project cost of $27.28m.”
\"It is envisaged that an additional average energy yield of 10GWh per annum with a maximum of 21 GWh per annum will be available to the Viti Levu Grid.
\"The additional average energy output of 10GWh per annum would displace diesel generation worth around $4.26m per annum at the current diesel price of $2130 per metric tonne.\"
The project will start later this month and is expected to complete within two years
